Gentle december days 6 and 7

I had a weird stomach bug on saturday so you get two today.
My two favorite books today are The Last Cuentista and Alebrijes by Donna Barba Higuera

This is an insane sci-fi trilogy that is being completed next spring and I'm incredibly excited for it's conclusion. In "The Last Cuentista", a kid is rushed to a spaceship that is leaving Earth, immediately before an asteroid hits and destroys all life. While she is on the flight, her hyper-sleep chamber malfunctions and she wakes up much earlier than she's supposed to. Totally thrilling.

It turns out that some small communities survived the end of the world, in "Alebrijes," back on the shattered Earth, Leandro is a member of an oppressed class of workers living in what is likely to be the last civilization. Caught stealing, he is banished to exile but is rescued by a process that turns him into a flying hummingbird drone. Completely addictive post-apocalyptic adventure ensues. This book is ridiculously creative and exciting and I highly recommend it to sci-fi readers of any age.
